Words of Support for Men With Erectile Dysfunction

First of all, don't blame yourself. Impotence or erectile dysfunction is not a sign of weakness or inadequecy. It can happen to any man of sexual age, although it is commoner for older men. Some Christian men may think that God is afflicting them with this impotence as punishment for sexual sins, for giving into sexual temptations or for having lustful thoughts. I don't think God punishes people by giving them physical problems, but He may put challenges in our path. If you have something on your conscience, give it over to the Lord, ask his forgiveness, and put it behind you. As Christ said, "Go forth and sin no more."

Others may wonder if it is right to ask for prayer for a sexual matter. To them I would say, erectile dysfunction is not just a sexual problem, it's a health problem, and it can also have psychological effects on how a man sees himself. It can cause problems in our relationship and family life. God cares for our whole well-being - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Sex is a natural part of that, and it's also part of marriage. We need to be able to perform to fulfill our roles as husbands. So there is nothing wrong or selfish about praying to God for healing from erectile dysfunction, or asking other to pray on our behalf.

Everything that happens to us is part of God's plan. Most men take sex for granted and or are too focused on obtaining it to think about how it fits into their spiritual life. Use this opportunity to reflect on what sex means to you. If you haven't been respecting your body or the sacredness of sexaul expression, consider what you have been doing with what God has entrusted you with. Are you using your sexual passions for the highest purposes? Maybe this is a calling to try putting the romance back into your marriage or strengthen your marriage bond with shared experiences other than sex.

Finally, don't overlook your physical health. In some cases erectile dysfunction can be the sign of an illness. Prayer is essential, but see a doctor as well. If you are not in good health or are not taking care of yourself, eating right, exercising, etc. that could be part of the problem. If you are abusing your body by drinking or partying too much that will take it's toll. Make your body a temple to the Lord in all ways.
